Getting Started

What is PLA?

PLA (Personal Longevity Advisor) is an iOS app that helps you track your health biomarkers using longevity-optimized reference ranges. Unlike standard lab ranges that tell you when something is wrong, PLA uses research-backed ranges focused on optimal health and longevity.

How do I add my lab results?

You can add biomarkers in three ways: (1) Use the camera to scan your lab reports with OCR, (2) Sync from Apple Health for compatible metrics, or (3) Enter values manually. The app will guide you through each method.

What biomarkers can I track?

PLA supports 50+ biomarkers including lipids (HDL, LDL, triglycerides), metabolic markers (HbA1c, fasting glucose), inflammatory markers (hs-CRP), thyroid panel, vitamins, hormones, and more. We also sync data from Apple Health including heart rate, HRV, sleep, and activity.

AI Features

How do I set up AI insights?

Go to Settings > API Configuration and enter your Anthropic API key. You can get a key at console.anthropic.com. Once configured, you'll see AI-powered insights and recommendations throughout the app.

How much does AI usage cost?

You pay Anthropic directly for API usage. Most users spend $2-5 per month depending on usage. PLA is designed to minimize token usage while providing comprehensive insights.

Is my health data shared with AI?

When you use AI features, only anonymized data (age, sex, biomarker values) is sent to Anthropic. Your name, email, location, lab names, and other identifying information are never transmitted. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Data & Privacy

Where is my health data stored?

All your health data is stored locally on your device, protected by iOS encryption and your device passcode. We never upload your health data to our servers. You have complete control over your information.

How do I export my data?

Go to Settings > Data Management. You can export your data as a PDF report (great for sharing with your doctor) or as raw JSON/CSV files for your own records.

How do I delete my data?

Go to Settings > Data Management > Delete All Data. This permanently removes all biomarker data from your device. Since data is stored locally, deleting the app also removes all data.

Subscription & Billing

How do I manage my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed through Apple. Go to iPhone Settings > [Your Name] > Subscriptions > PLA to view, modify, or cancel your subscription.

How do I request a refund?

Refunds are processed through Apple. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com and select your PLA purchase to request a refund.

Troubleshooting

App Issues

The app is crashing or freezing

Try these steps: (1) Force-close the app and reopen it, (2) Restart your iPhone, (3) Ensure you're running the latest iOS version, (4) Update PLA from the App Store. If issues persist, contact support with your device model and iOS version.

OCR isn't reading my lab report correctly

For best results: (1) Ensure good lighting without glare, (2) Hold the camera steady and wait for auto-focus, (3) Make sure the entire report is visible and text is sharp, (4) Try scanning in landscape mode for wide reports. You can always edit scanned values manually.

Sync Issues

HealthKit data isn't syncing

Check these settings: (1) Go to Settings > HealthKit Integration and ensure it's connected, (2) Open Apple Health > Sharing > Apps > PLA and verify all permissions are enabled, (3) Tap "Sync Now" in PLA's HealthKit settings. Note: Some metrics require Apple Watch.

iCloud sync isn't working

Verify: (1) iCloud is enabled in iPhone Settings, (2) PLA has iCloud access enabled in Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Apps Using iCloud, (3) You have sufficient iCloud storage. If sync issues persist after checking these, try toggling iCloud sync off and on in PLA settings.

AI Issues

AI features show an error

Common causes: (1) Invalid API key - verify it at console.anthropic.com, (2) Insufficient API credits - add billing information to your Anthropic account, (3) Rate limits - wait a few minutes and try again, (4) Network issues - check your internet connection.

AI responses seem incomplete or cut off

This can happen if the AI reaches its token limit. Try asking more specific questions or breaking complex queries into smaller parts. Future updates will optimize token usage further.
